Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The model X85J is confirmed to have a VA panel. You can research this yourself but I’m correct to say this. Check the online ratings from the pros, they do confirm that this model has a VA panel. This model X85J is in fact Sony’s gaming TV, therefore, it has to have a VA panel which is used mainly for gaming. VA panels are much better than IPS panels all around! In another note: the model X80J has the horrible IPS panel. Avoid that model. For the extra money the X85J model is your best bet! I own the X85J and Love it for everything! I use it with my PC, mirroring, Netflix and gaming! Awesome! Seriously! Especially at night in a dark room, the picture is beyond words, it’s superb!

Yet Sony responders have provided the same canned answer every time a consumer has asked it on this Q&A board. It's a pretty basic question -- ISP or VA, and just about every TV on the market has one...or the other. The answer should be offered with pride, not shrouded in secrecy.. It makes it look like it's an embarrassment to admit, and doesn't really live up to the standard that "SonyListens." Thankfully, however, other review sites are more forthcoming with questions consumers ask FOR A REASON. They have confirmed that it's the VA panel that's installed in the X85J which is considered to be excellent for contrasts and blacks and darker room settings...and better for gaming...but not as great in brighter areas or if viewing your TV at more of an angle -- all things that matter to a consumer who wants and deserves to know how best to address their own specific needs and environment -- something Sony wouldn't know but could certainly help a consumer identify as a best option. Rather than coming across as though a company has something to pull over on a customer, it lets a customer know why they can TRUST a company -- something past experience has always told me about Sony, and why I chose to go with them now. Please don't burst the bubble!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. All X85J models have VA panels. X80J all have IPS. This has been confirmed by RTINGS and many other top tech ratings reviews. Research it and you will know what I mean. VA panels are great for gaming because of the refresh and motion rates. X85J model is mainly for gaming. Therefore it has a VA panel.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Some say VA panel and some say IPS panel. I read every review out there an no one knows exactly because Sony is very tight lip about their panels. I’m going to say that this acts like an IPS panel, however, has VA qualities. Since the blacks are very black and the grays are spot on with a great contrast to it, I’m going to say that these are VA panels. As the technology develops the VA panel will be history forever! It’s all about price!
