Sometimes this happens to me as well. I think the default setting shuts bar off when sitting idle for a bit. Look for the green light on in speakers. If the light is red the system is off. If green the system is on. Also I connected mine to The ARC out-put on my Sony TV. This allows you to control volume with TV remote.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I purchased this unit two weeks ago. Same issue. Found a couple forums that all have the same issue. No fix from Sony. No plans to do so with any firmware update. As it only happens on certain audio signals. If I am streaming from Netflix or Amazon video I can't turn it to the max. But certain dish network programs it can barely be heard. I may return it and go with another unit. Just not sure which will give me the wireless surround and be in that price range and keep the Sony brand to match my tv. Good luck
