• I can't really compare the sound to the Onkyo because I've never owned that model. But, I can tell you that I think the sound on the Sony player is superb -- give it a try!

• I never heard much difference to speak of and I use expensive equipment but I'm older and gave up on being picky long ago. The Onkyo claims to use a much better DAC when you use the coaxial outputs but if you use the Optical then they are identical in specification.
