Not being there to see how you have the set connected and how you have the controls on the setup page set, I can only conclude that you are doing something incorrectly. My TV doesn't do that, except when it is a "feature" of the video I am looking at (like from a Blu Ray disk) where the original Cinemascope aspect ratio is maintained for display on a 16 by 9 fomat monitor. Another possibility is that you are not viewing 1080i/p or 720p content. Then, those bars are there to maintain the correct aspect ratio of the old NTSC scanning system. IOf you other TVs aren't doing it, you are looking at a very distorted picture, or a picture that has information clipped of the top and bottom in order to fill the screen. There is no other way to fit a square picture into a rectangular screen without one or the other.

All TVs have an aspect ratio (The ratio of the width to the height of an image or screen). Current model LCD, LED, or OLED TVs have an aspect ratio of 16:9 or 1.78:1. This is much wider than older TVs that were 4:3 or 1.33:1. While we are not sure what source device or streaming applications you are playing, you may try following the troubleshooting steps using these articles to isolate the issue: • Black bars are displayed on the top and bottom of the TV screen or the picture appears cut off - https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/televisions-projectors-oled-tvs-android-/xr-55a95k/articles/00027127 • Black bars appear on the top, bottom, and sides of the TV picture - https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00031431 Should you need more assistance, please feel free to contact us and we'll be more than happy to assist you.
