Hi Bugman523, losing 2 1/2 inches of the picture really doesn't affect anything. When it comes to which TV is better, it will still depend on your viewing preference. These models almost share the same specification except for the backlight type used. For 690 series it uses Direct LED while the 720 uses Edge LED.
