My understanding is that yes, this tv does have local dimming, it is just not FULL ARRAY local dimming. It is top and bottom lit local dimming. You have to jump up to the 900 series for full array, and based on my research, it was not worth paying an extra $500 considering that appears to be the only difference between the two. I certainly havent noticed any issues so far - the picture is great.
