The IR blaster connects on the side facing panel above the Ethernet (LAN) port. It transmits a signal that allows the TV to communicate with some RF capable peripherals attached to your TV.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi thomasr1950, The common use of an IR blaster is to extend infrared signals in order to place remote-controlled products behind closed doors. Here is the link to its setup procedure for more details: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/76486 -Jerome
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The IR blaster is used to emit control signals to other IR controlled devices that requires the use of the included IR emitter cable dangling out so that the emitter beads face the devices. Used primarily I believe for older devices that don't auto configure for control by the tv remote, like a 30 year old high performance Kenwood surround sound amplifier/receiver.
