Apparently Jay did not understand my question. I think I clearly stated that I am getting sound on my A/V receiver from some sources on the Sony Bravia, but not when using the TV tuner, so obviously both devices are ARC compatible.

If only one of the devices is ARC/eARC compatible, the HDMI® ARC/eARC feature can't be activated. To get sound from your TV, you will need to connect the audio system with an optical cable or audio cable.
