“Playing music from a USB drive, and shutting off the receiver, will the playback resume from the same point where it left off, or does it go back to Folder 1, File 1? (Shut off in File 3, song 17, will it pick up at that same song when turned back on?)”

USB use is useless on this receiver! Shuffle WILL RESTART EVERY TIME IN THE SAME ORDER! You cannot navigate anywhere too. The only option is to go through each song in order. COMPLETELY USELESS! I try to leave the power on so it will keep going through songs, but that is NOT practical! And there is no help using the onscreen menus either. No help for this problem. There is nothing about this receiver that I like. :(
