Yes to your questions. The first thing I did was play a CD thru the DVD player and then just AM and FM radio on that function on the dial front selector or the remote hand controller. No TV needed at any point because I had a sound bar which is similar to your floor speaker setup. There are enough plug-ins and wire leads on the back of this receiver, that are simple connections and not using the HDMI 4? or Optical port generally used for TV sounds or connecting to a DVD player. I am sure there also is a dedicated Sub-woofer port so your 2.1 setup will easily be completed. Good luck with this wonderful receiver. Hope that helps. Chip
