• This IS an amplifier - you could use it outside of your TV if you wanted. Its advantage is that you can take the signal from your DVD player and run it through this amp to power better speakers, then return the signal to your tv screen for the video. There is some problem with taking signals from old VCR players via component audio cables, but the regular DVD cables work great. if you just want to use it for a CD player output, that works great, too. There is no equalizer function.
