Will this receiver work without a TV hookup? null

Yes. Just don't expect the audio flexibility of a stereo receiver as this unit has no 'contour' button that raises the bass and treble output in addition to the 'bass' and 'treble' knobs of a stereo receiver. You have to go in and find the 'equalizer' in the menu (remote-controlled bass and treble only; no mid-range adjustments available) and adjust it that way. Good luck.

The onscreen details helped me set it up. It works just fine without the tv on but it would be harder to see the instructions.
