Yes this is true. You must turn it on and select the input you want or have it on that input when it gets turned off. It does not automatically detect a signal and change inputs.

If there are multiple HDMI devices connected to the receiver, the priority is given to the last device that was used before the receiver was turned off, if you currently have several HDMI devices attached to the unit then it will be necessary to select the input prior turning the receiver off.
