I would download the users manual for the receiver and check out the different audio modes.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm using this receiver mainly for the HDMI feed through of a PlayStation 3 to an HDMI input on a TV. This keeps the audio heard on the stereo system speakers synchronized with the video seen on the TV. The rest of the Sony setup is connected as conventional stereo, left & right channels to speakers, sub woofer RCA jacks to powered sub woofer RCA jacks. I'm not using surround sound so the center and rear speaker outputs from the Sony are not connected. The other inputs seem OK. Most likely you hear the TV because it has its own amplification system. If there's speakers connected to the Sony you should hear something as long as the controls are set normal. I bought this receiver mainly for the HDMI looping. Conventional stereo receivers don't have HDMI inputs and outputs. The Sony was reasonably priced even though I won't use the surround sound. capabilities.
