I had the same question and could not wait for the pricing on the 940E to drop. The few extra goodies it has in terms of tech were simply not worth the extra coin to me over the 900E. It has a Contrast ratio of 10X compared to the 900E 5X. When you see the sets side by side it is difficult to tell in all but the darkest rooms. The 940E will get closer to OLED black than any LCD/LED set I know. But unless your viewing environment, such as with a theater space, is always truly kept dark, you will not find blacks wanting in the least. I always keep some form of background light on to relieve my wife's eyes anyway. So absolute blackness, while necessary to provide better detail contrast, is only slightly less in real terms. The 940E does have a pretty back panel and likely utilizes more zones in its full array dimming system. The 40% greater image processing power comes at a cost, however. Something has to account for the weight difference between the sets but I suspect it is mostly the back panel. I love the 900E but would have loved to own the 940E. Just not for an avg. of an extra $2K worth. Sometimes you're just on the clock and you do the best you can with what's available. No regrets
