Sorry, there was a problem. I basically wanted it for the back-lit feature. Yes it was pricey but love the back-lit feature no more guess work in the dark again

While I'm still awaiting Sony's reply to this, there is a way to get the surround and the TV speaker working simultaneously. 1. Connect your TV with an optical cable to your receiver 2. Disable Surround Sound System mode in the menu With these two options set, your TV will be publishing all channels to the optical connection and play it. 3. Map the dB output of your receiver to the dB output of your TV. Although the two devices will have independent control, you will need to know the ratio of your receiver to the TV volume. In my example -- the Onkyo receiver is 1.25x of TV volume, so if I set my TV to numeric "50", my receiver will need to go up to ~62. I'm still awaiting Sony's reply on why : 1. the manual states that a center speaker mode is an option 2. there is an "S" output present 3. software control is enabled 4. None of that works, and Sony advises us to purchase a more expensive unit.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You would probably be better off with a Harmony remote and it is probably less expensive.

We are sorry, but we cannot guarantee the full operation and functionality of the backlit remote of our A90J (RMFTX621U) to our A80J. We recommend using only the supplied remote control of our A80J (RMFTX520U) to avoid any issues. I hope this helps! Thanks! - Romeo
