I am not sure all of the differences, but I know there is a more power in the 3100es. I believe there is the potential for 11 (9+2 phantom) channels of sound in the 3100 and 9 (7 + 2) channels in the 1100. I will say that I don't need all the channels on the 3100. I would be all about the 1100 if it was available, in my price range, and I didn't need 11 dang channels. Which I don't. I use five + a subwoofer. So I have zone two going to a headphone amp. Do you need the extra wattage? Depends on your room size. I bet the 1100 slams.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The biggest difference is that this has pre-outs for 9.2 channels, so it can be used with a power amplifier to support 9.2 channels, rather than the 7.2 when used without a power amplifier. This one also has a higher wattage output (which is also just for when it's used without a power amplifier). The STR-ZA1100ES also doesn't have the "8-Port Gigabit Ethernet switch".
