There is a code list for an Onkyo Receiver but not a Onkyo amplifier. The remote is designed to find the right code for a device. I did have a problem using the codes provided for my Motorola cable box, so I used the Find Code function to program the remote and it worked. I don't know if will work on your Preamp. The only way to know is to try it.

Follow the 3 steps mentioned under “Setting the manufacturer’s code” heading to program the remote. Refer to page #13 of the Manual in the below link. http://www.docs.sony.com/release/RMVLZ620.pdf If you cannot control the Receiver, even after correctly setting the manufacturer’s code, you can teach the RM-VLZ620 new functions by using the original remote control supplied with the Receiver. Refer to page #20 of the Manual under the heading “Teaching the RM-VLZ620 New Functions (Learning Function)” for details.
