On a traditional DSLR there is a mirror that reflects the image up to the image viewer and covers the image sensor until you take a picture. On a mirrorless camera there is no mirror so the image sensor is always exposed. On a mirrorless, the eye piece is actually a digital screen. There are pros and cons of both styles of cameras, please do homework before choosing. Good luck.

With a mirrorless camera, you get a preview of the image on-screen. ... A DSLR, by contrast, reflects the light into your eye, which is better than the camera sensor at low light.
