The browser is not very good. Do not use that for watching videos, that;s what the apps are for. The USB port on the front is great. I throw all my videos on a USB stick and yes it plays MKV's, MP4's, pretty much takes any file format and plays it. Haven't tried a USB hard drive though, but seems unnecessary. Thumb drive is a tad more convenient on my end due to constant use and adding / deleting files.
