  • QuestionDoes it play 4k ultra disc and dvd

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Hi there, thanks for asking! The BDPS1700U does not support playback of 4K Ultra HD (UHD) Blu-ray discs. This model is a standard Blu-ray player, which means: It can play standard Blu-ray discs, regular DVDs, and CDs. It does not support the newer Ultra HD Blu-ray (4K UHD) disc format, which requires a specific UHD-compatible drive and decoding hardware. Some Sony models in higher series (like the BDP-S6500 and BDP-S6700) can upscale standard Blu-ray and DVD content to near-4K resolution when connected to a 4K TV, but they also do not support actual 4K UHD disc playback. The BDP-S1700U is designed to play DVDs and Blu-ray discs; however, it will not recognize or play 4K Ultra HD discs. This model is capable of upscaling standard definition DVDs to near HD resolution and can play Blu-ray movies in Full High Definition quality. If 4K playback is a requirement for you, you might consider the following models: - UBP-X700 - UBP-X800 - UBP-X800M2 - UBP-X1000ES These models are equipped to play UHD Blu-ray discs and output native 4K video. It is important to note that earlier models, such as the BDPS6700, are labeled as "4K upscaling models" and cannot play UHD discs, similar to the BDPS1700U, which can upscale to HD but does not support 4K playback. • QuestionDoes this DVD player work with just the hdmi cable? Or do you need to hook up the audio cable?

    Asked by Elaine.

    • Answer Hi Elaine, Yes, the Sony BDP-S1700U Blu-ray player can be used with just the HDMI cable alone. The HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) standard is designed to transmit both high-quality digital video and multi-channel digital audio through a single cable. As long as you connect the HDMI cable from the player to an HDMI input on your TV (or sound system), you do not need to connect a separate audio cable. The sound will be carried over the HDMI cable along with the picture. Thank you for considering Sony products! Regards, Dominick

  • Questiondoes this play regular music cds 1 1

    Asked by SHIBA.

    • Answer Hi Kuma, Thanks for your interest in our Blu-ray Player. We're here to assist you! The Sony BDP-S1700U is primarily a Blu-ray player, and it is designed to play standard CDs, including regular music CDs. However, please note that while it supports the regular CD format, playback for certain disc types, such as DualDiscs or some discs encoded with copyright protection technologies, may not be guaranteed due to compatibility issues with the Compact Disc standard. This means that regular music CDs should play without issues, but other specialized formats might have varying compatibility. • QuestionHow easy is this unit to adapt to a Logitech Harmony 665 remote? How does one program this unit to the remote?

    Asked by Guy.

    • Answer Hi Guy, Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Sony BDP-S1700U. When it comes to using this Blu-ray player with a universal remote like the Logitech Harmony 665, the setup process typically involves following the specific instructions and using the established device codes provided by Logitech in their user manual or through their programming software. While Sony devices often share standard infrared command sets, we must note that full functionality and compatibility are not guaranteed when using third-party universal remotes. We suggest consulting the documentation provided with your Harmony 665 or contacting Logitech support to ensure they have the specific profile for this model in their database. Thank you for considering Sony! Regards, Dominick

  • QuestionIs this a region free dvd player?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Hi there, Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Sony BDP-S1700U. This model is not a region-free player, as Sony Blu-ray and DVD players are manufactured to align with specific regional coding standards. For units purchased in the United States and Canada, the player is designed to support Region A Blu-ray discs and Region 1 DVDs. These designations ensure that the hardware remains compatible with the licensed content distributed within those geographical zones. We hope you find this information helpful, and thanks for considering Sony! Best regards, Dominick

  • QuestionCan you play dvd from other regions? For example the uk

    Asked by AdamA.

    • Answer Hi AdamA, Standard Sony Blu-ray players sold in the United States, including the BDP-S1700U, are coded for Region 1 (North America) DVDs and Region A Blu-rays. Because the UK uses Region 2 for DVDs and Region B for Blu-rays, these discs will not be compatible with a standard US model. Thanks for choosing Sony. Best regards, Eliab
