It is possible, but only in limited situations because most smart TVs and BR players don't have full UPnP/DLNA features or have limits on the file types being played back. Kodi is meant to be ran on a miniPC or small box that is connected directly to the TV, and not really as a server.

As part of normal operation, individual apps and the video, photos or movies provided in an app are added and removed automatically by Sony and the content providers.
