According to the user manual I downloaded, you can use regular AAA batteries. I have not tried this, so I can't vouch for it. But it seems reasonable. The charger station is supposed to be able to tell that you don't have rechargeable batteries and not try to recharge them. Personally, if I were to put regular AAA batteries in the headphones, I would not place them on the charger station at all.
