If you want to hear audio from your TV or make it like surround sound yes you do need an HDMI cord it comes with an optical cord.

You can use the hdmi if you have arc. I would recommend that. If not you can also connect it to your tv via fiber optic.

Only if you want to control the volume using the tv's remote - depending on the system's compatibility.
