The noise canceling is great. I took my XM2's with me as I trained at Werner Enterprises and then as I transitioned to Knight Transportation. I appreciated the noise canceling MORE inside the truck, but if you talk thru them on a call (outside, say at the feul pump) the other party will hear you in a noisy environment, but in a grocery store they'll hear you just fine. You also need to opt into the "Speech to Chat" feature, and the ambient sound feature can be adjusted.

It also features AI based noise reduction algorithm that isolates your voice and keeps conversations crisp. And yes, you can remove one unit of the headset from the charging case and use the unit by itself. In this case, only the unit that has been removed from the charging case will turn on. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. To clarify, the active noice canceling affects the sound YOU hear, not what others hear when you talk to them on the phone. It uses external microphones so anything that can pickup in theory can be heard by others.
