This product does not require an HDTV.

You don't need an HDTV to be able to use the PS4. But you will not use the PS4's resolution to the fullest, which is FULL HD (1080p). The resolution of the TV screen will not make the PS4 slower or faster, so I highly recommend getting an HDTV, to watch the display at its best, while not sacrificing any performance at all.
