• I recommend the PS4, not the PS4 Pro. I've heard they run hot. If you can afford to purchase the PS4 1TB, he should be able to play on that console for years to come. Hope this is helpful.

• I just ran into a similar situation. I went with the 1TB PS4 not the Pro because I don't have the need for 4K graphics. I have used the Pro back to back with mine and there is no noticeable difference in gameplay.

• Imo the basic model should be sufficient for a kid. You can check the specs to be sure but as an adult casual gamer I found the differences too negligible to justify $100 difference
