Convert DTS to Dolby???? These are different soundtrack codecs and each subject to royalties. Sony products support both codecs in their products, including the UBP-X800 Blu-ray Player. To most audiophiles, DTS which IS necessarily 5.1 is considered superior to Dolby 5.1, but not superior to Dolby ATMOS. DTS:X is considered equivalent to Dolby ATMOS. Nevertheless, this player has all the necessary audio codecs to give you beautiful sound quality transparently, even when playing MP3 and CD's with Sony's DSEE HX technology. With your Samsung HWK950 soundbar you'll be able to enjoy Dolby ATMOS audio in cinema quality with this player, provided your Blu-ray discs support Dolby ATMOS. There are few Blu-ray players that can deliver sound quality as well as this Sony player does. Moreover, Sony has spared no expense with this player's unique frame-and-beam chassis, so all you experience is the highest sound and picture quality.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Samsung HWK-950 soundbar did not originally support DTS...it would convert DTS to a 2.1 format. There was a very recent firmware update that will fix the issue. You just need to download the latest firmware.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. That is both a fault in your soundbar (it does not support the traditional Blu-Ray formats [Dolby Master Audio or DTS TrueHD] for some completely stupid reason, only Atmos encodings), as well as being reliant on the formats supported on the disc you are playing. If the disc offers multiple sound encodings, then you can select them from the audio menu of the disc. Otherwise, you're stuck with it. If you are still within your return period on the soundbar, you might consider returning it in favor of the Sony ST9 or NT5, or even waiting for the ST5000. They support all of the surround sound formats, offer true surround sound with additional wireless speakers* (NT5 only), and have an additional HDMI input as well, which simplifies your wiring/connections.
