Hi BarryManlow, If you are going to connect this device to a TV, an HDMI cable is needed. You may refer to page 11 of this link: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4687/46873091M.pdf ~Ralph

You could do both. Wireless is so you can get the apps that come with it already. you do need to hook HDMI.
