Open box items are products that are being sold as refurbished or factory recertified. Sony does not sell used speaker. There are several types of refurbishment processes. Refer to the dealer selling the product/Best Buy for information on what refurbishment process the product has been through. Open box could be used or non-used. It's just open and beyond resealable like it was when originally shipped
