The major protection is when it’s closed and latched. There is a little protection around the lip of the device to also protect the screen.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you can place a screen protector over the screen because it grips the bottom and 4 sides it doesn’t touch the glass screen. However, there are no bumpers on this cover to protect the screen from cracking if it falls face down. I’ve had mine for 2 weeks now and I was so uncomfortably careful with it that it was all that was on my mind while I was using the iPad (no warranty) so I bought another one with a bumper on it, it looks like a cellphone cover. I have a screen protector but the cover doesn’t feel like it’s enough protection. I plan to return this one.
