  • QuestionWhat is the difference between the "Plus" and the "Pro"? -also, do you need to buy an extra bettery? if so, how much?

    • Answer The Pro has better video resolution and more advanced audio noise filters. It also has more advanced motion detection software. Both the Pro and the plus come with two battery slots and one battery. You do not need a second battery for the camera to work but it is a nice feature to have. The camera is programed to draw power from one battery and then switch to the second battery when the first one is drained. The app will alert you when one battery is drained. You can then remove the drained battery, recharge it, and put it back long before the second battery is drained. In this way, you can keep your camera online with no interruption power. A second battery is ususlly priced at about $35.

Ring products are not waterproof and should not be submerged in water or sprayed with high pressure water. If you can, it is recommended to keep your Ring device under a protective overhang such as a hanging roof.   • QuestionMy pro cam has two batteries, when #1 dies will it automatically switch to # 2 battery? How low does battery 1 have to be to switch?

It will seamlessly switch to the second battery, so you will not experience any downtime with the device.     • Answer Yes it can but you need the solar panel with the usbc connection. If you have an older solar panel with the barrel connection an adaptor can be bought to adapt it. All around a good product.

  • QuestionCan you hardwire a battery Spotlight Cam Pro Battery powered unit to make it electric powered? Someone told me you could open the Spotlight Cam & there are 2 connections points in the unit to connect wires.

For best performance, Ring recommends at least two to three hours of direct sunlight for the Ring Solar Panel. With the recommended amount of direct sunlight, the device will remain continuously charged under most conditions.   • QuestionThe solar panel we bought with the Ring Camera has never charged the camera. There is no obstruction and it get well over 4 hours of sun. How do I confirm it is working? This was bought in December 2024 I have had to take the batteries out to charge

    • Answer Not being wise, but make sure the connection is fully inserted. If you go into your settings in the upper right corner, you should be able to see your batteries while the solar panel is in direct sunlight. You should see a little charging emblem. If the batteries get below 50% they never recover from the solar charger. That’s just my Personal opinion.

  • QuestionI understand that this camera works off of WiFi , I want to mount it outside about 20 feet from my building. My question is what is the range for the WiFi to work on the camera? Thank you,

    • Answer Hi John. Thank you for your question. Ideally, your device should be within 20 feet from your router or nearest access point. A good way to test a location before getting the camera is to run a speed test while only connected to the network your camera will be connected to. As a general rule, most Ring devices function best when upload and download speeds are around 2 Mbps or greater.   • QuestionIt would be nice if there were images showing how a solar panel plugs into the Spotlight Cam Pro. The image must show the actual connection. I have seen several that show a person holding the cable next to the camera but not where the actual plug is.

    • Answer There is a small port in the back of the camera that the solar panel plugs into - very simple and easy. Ring does make a mount that the camera and the panel both attach to that makes it very easy to attach both to house, but Best Buy doesn't sell it. Need to order it from ring directly or from Amazon. They have a gutter mount version and a house mount version. I have both of them on different cameras and it makes the install look very professional.
