The freezer needs proper ventilation...you should allow a minimum of 8 inches on the sides...4inches at the back and 12 inches at the top of the unit.

To ensure proper ventilation for your upright freezer, allow a minimum clearance of 8 inches on the sides, 4 inches at the back and 12 inches at the top of the unit." The manual is also quite specific about electrical requirements, leveling, and other safety concerns.
