• Yes, you will have no problem transferring files. I used it to update my HDD storage drive to an SSD. I know the process to clone the drive is more complicated but if your just want to transfer the files using this makes your old drive no different than an external hard drive.

• As long as the 2.5" drive is still in working condition you should be able to retrieve files from it using the USB3S2SAT3CB as a means to connect it to a PC used to recover the files. Brandon, StarTech.com Support
