Sure, but I believe you must have a 3.0 USB port in your laptop, so that it can power the external hdd or ssd, those 3.0 USB ports are easily recognizable by their blue color. There is also a USB type C cable which would also get the job done if you have those ports.

The USB3S2SAT3CB is a simple SATA HDD/SSD to USB adapter. On its own it does not perform any cloning. The use of 3rd party cloning software combined with the USB3S2SAT3CB can be used to clone drives. Brandon, StarTech.com Support
