The mic is still functional when it is retracted. There is a super convenient button the side that mutes the mice. When it is muted a little red light on the mute lights up.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No, even when retracted you can still use it. They have a mute button on the back left side. When muted the end of the mic will glow red. You can barely see it if the mic has the windscreen on though.
