No monthly fee, however many of the services you will want to acess with it do require mothly fees. It runs on a wifi internet connection. It should work anywhere you have wifi acess. Some content is locally controlled. Local content channels and some cable network channels are often dependant upon the local television service distributors and may not be available. A fee based service like sling can provide access to these channel.
