Are ads installed on the stick or on Roku Channel? null

The Roku channel content that I view does have ads inserted.

I'm relatively new using Roku but from what I can tell it depends on the channel you are watching on it, some of the pay channels like Discovery plus give you a choice of subscriptions, a lower price gives you ads, for a couple dollars a month more you can skip all ads on it. I hope this helps.
