No you don't need the subscription service to keep using the device, but once the "premium" trial service expires you do loose a lot of useful history and comparison information. It will still monitor your daily usage and send you alerts about leaks and remains fully functional.

We do offer a subscription service that gives users access to things such as the API, the ability to export data, and having up to 5 devices per account. All basic water usage information and leak detection features are available for free in the StreamLabs App.

Please try again later.Unfortunately the Streamlabs app is pretty useless with the "free" features so you're stuck with the monthly fee if you want to get any real use out of this unit. You can ONLY see hourly data going back to midnight on the same day. So if a leak occurred yesterday that you weren't able to check until today, you can only ever see how many total gallons were used that day--none of the minute by minute record of that leak can be accessed (well, not without paying Streamlabs for it).
