“I just got this and plugged it in the charge the battery. It’s been charging fir 8 hours now and the charging light is still red. Manual says 5 hours should do it. Am I doing anything wrong?”

Hopefully by the time you see this answer it is working correctly. Try a different plug socket or maybe it needs more time to charge. If you never see a green light, I would take it back and have it checked out.
