Yes. You can set it up to beep, email you or both. I tried email notification on motion alerts but got hundreds of emails. I didn't want to lessen the sensitivity so I elected not to do the emails with motion. I use the line crossing feature on my driveway so the DVR beeps when someone pulls into my driveway and I get an email with 3 pics, almost instantly. Good system.
