Technically, you do not need a DVR for any cctv camera if you are just using it for live feed. You can run the DNC candle directly into a compatible monitor or tv. If you are wanting to record, however, you will need a DVR.

I hope this helps it is correct I think. I myself prefer the CCTV but I have used WIFI and they are actually very reliable if you get a good brand. They do sell wifi cameras with a tablet or display device which basically eliminates your WIFI DVR (Receiver) and gives you a portable monitor, the downside is you can usually only use the cameras sold with the monitor and can't add more like a DVR system. And this is what I know, I may be missing a camera type I don't know about. This is what I've learned just building my own system. If you are looking for a high camera system I would go CCTV, the wires suck to run and hide but it's what I would use. If you just want a couple cameras up to four, I'd go wifi honestly. I really how this helps and good luck
