You can buy An extra battery from the swft website. The bike has 5 modes of travel 00 - walk mode disengages as soon as brake is pressed 0 - pedal only 1 - low pedal assist 2 - medium pedal assist 3 - high pedal assist Throttle can be used at any time in mode 1, 2, or 3 without peddling

The ZIP is a 6-speed bicycle with nice torque so you can enjoy a smooth ride even if your battery is dead. Before using your throttle, you do have to give yourself a little kick start or pedal to start the bike moving. You'll have to be moving a minimum of 2mph before you can use the throttle.
