“Have this DVD player connected to my RCA tv using RCA cables. Problem: Despite both DVD player and TV set to full volume, I am unable to hear anything unless I am a few inches from the tv screen. Have checked colors on cables match ports. Any ideas?”

Test on a different TV if problem persists , you got a lemon, return it and replace with another one
