Hello James, You cannot force the 16:9 or 4:3 aspect reation, however the TV's picture size is set to "Auto" to adjust for content that has a different aspect ratio than the native 16:9. There is an option to even stretch 4:3 content to fit 16:9, if you want to do that. Hope this helps TCL Social Support
