Varies greatly as it depends on the following and other items: location of your home main electrical panel to your desired Tesla charger. This will probably require a subpanel, suitable breakers, disconnect, conduit, fittings, supports, 3 conductor wiring with ground (4 cables), wall penetrations, labor, equipment, electrical permits, and other items. The cost could vary anywhere from less than a thousand to a much larger amount. I was able to have my Tesla wall charger installed 4 years ago for less than 500 as it was connected to a spare 250vac 30 amp circuit in my garage. With this set up I was able to charge my Tesla up to 24 amps (80% of 30 amps) which provided about 16 miles per hour. The wall charger has internal pin switches which are set to match the supply voltage and amperage. Finally, get several bids from reliable and bonded electricians as this work has to be done correctly!

We found asking an electrician to wire a 1450 outlet was less expensive. Since then, the electric code has changed to all 1450 outlets in the garage have to be GFCI, which plays havoc with car chargers as the outlets trip with large power fluctuation and interfere with charging. So hard wiring may be the best option for now. And those costs vary because you have to use a larger gague copper wire the longer the run. Copper wire costs more per foot as the gague goes up. If you do have to pay for wiring go ahead and go to a 50 amp circuit so you can charger faster. On forums the price ranges from $500 to $5000, but each installation is different. Surprisingly, newer homes are not required to have 200 amp service yet, so most of us will be charging at below 30 miles per hour or paying for subpanel upgrades.

A lower setting may let fringe installs cost much less. Wild guesses start at $300-$5000 and could be more. Some people have excess availability in load center and short easy distance to mount/install. Others may require extensive update to power.

If you have a garage with the proper high voltage wiring available it could be as little as $900. In my case I’m in a garden style condo and between installing a DCC-9 to tap directly off my meter, and trenching the conduit and wire from there to my parking space it will $6,500. The only way to know for sure is to get an estimate from an electrician.
