The medium leggings come all the way up my leg and I leave the zipper unzipped about 1 inch at the top, by my crotch. The smalls would probably only come up to the top of my thighs. I'm 5'8" so I'm right in the middle of the medium and at the short end of the inseam. Most things I wear are medium except for tshirts or gloves which are large or xlarge.
