Dear Customer, You can drag and drop the data from one HDD to other. If you try to clone the HDD. You will need 3rd party cloning software. Best Regards, Thermaltake USA Customer service Toll free: 1-800-988-1088 M-F 9:00AM ~ 5:30PM (P.S.T.)
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I know these questions were asked a while ago, but I thought it important enough that I put my 2 cents on this for anyone purchasing/using in the future. I bought this docking unit a couple years ago. Unit was working great. Drives were detecting the minute I plugged them in, was able to read/write to them no problem. I believe it was a 3TB hard drive that I had plugged into the dock and was using it. Again, first glance and after using it for a bit, all seemed well, no problem. Couple months later I started getting errors, lost files, lost directions, etc. Finally, not knowing before that this docking station in particular has a MAX drive size that you can use, and I had not known that at the time. KEEP IN MIND: This MAX limit.. doesn't show right away, because the drive is detected and used just fine. UP TO THE POINT where you start getting close to that "MAX LIMIT". Basically I believe what happens is that at some point, the drive will start writing data in a space it shouldn't (for instance, the MBR, partition tables, etc). For example, say the partition table on drives are found in a standard location. Al of a sudden the partition table on the drive is moved a couple sectors off... so now there are 2 partition tables, etc. I becomes one big mess. What makes this worse, is that I see different size limits listed every where. From their own documentation, it says 2 TB MAX, on here BestBuy says 6 TBs PER BAY !!! (I don't think that's right at all - unless Thermaltake has updated the product without giving it a new model number or something). Anyways, bottom line, personally, I would NOT GO OVER 2TB PER BAY ON THIS ENCLOSURE. That is unless you can verify with certainty that yours will handle larger drives. REMEMBER THINGS MAY APPEAR ALRIGHT WHEN USING A LARGER DRIVE AT FIRST BUT IT'S LATER WHEN YOU START TO FILL IT UP THAT YOU COULD RUN INTO SOME REAL ISSUES !! Good Luck everyone...!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, absolutely. I was able to copy from an old mechanical HD to an SSD both in the same dock without issue.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. it acts as if the drives were installed in your pc with both drives
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. They both are independent. If you want to copy to one and not the other, or from laptop to either, or both, go for it. They are not related to each other at all. In fact, if you have 3 drives, you can swap them out with each other, or swap the slots, and it won't matter. Don't get confused with your drive letters, doing the swapping though...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. They should show up as 2 separate drives.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You would need to hook up to an existing computer to copy and paste, or run a cloning program. But, yes I do this alot
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you can and at very high speed.
