Any relatively new hard drive will be SATA. This format has been around for some time now. However, to be sure, note the connections: SATA has two small cables that connect it to a computer. The older style had one long connector and a smaller power connector.

The IDE connectors are a bank of pins whereas the SATA connectors on the larger harddrives look like black plastic "L"'s. On a laptop drive, the SATA connectors look like a flat connector with copper "teeth." Do a google image search for examples.
