“If I set timer to go off after 12 hours it starts from the time I shut the car off but if I start car 4 hours later does the timer reset to 12 hours from that point. Basically the timer will be set for 12 hours from the llast time turned car off?”

Hi there! Yes, the timer will reset each time the dash cam switches from Parking Surveillance Mode to Continuous Recording Mode. Please note that Parking Surveillance Mode will require hardwiring installation with the Thinkware Hardwiring Cable, which is also available at Best Buy (TWA-SH). Please try again later.First of all in order to use the timer you have to be in parking mode in order to be in parking mode you have to permanently hard wire the unit in then when you set the timer it will shut off when you tell it to but if you restart the car then the timer will also reset itself.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I never experienced that problem. I was able to get some excellent answers from the Camera customer service dept. I do know that most newer cars have a power cutoff to keep battery from draining while car is off. That might be part of your issue.
